Located in central New York is a small city known as Oneida. It is about 30 miles east of Syracuse and 25 miles west of Utica. Oneida is positioned in Madison County and is the second largest city therein. As of 2016, Oneida had a population of approximately 11,080 according to the United States Census Bureau.

Oneida is located in a region of the United States that was originally inhabited by Native American Indian tribes. The area is named for the Oneida tribe that hunted and camped in the area during the Colonial era. Eventually, the Oneida and many other tribes were forced to surrender their land. Afterward, large numbers of European-American settlers arrived and stayed in the area. In 1848, the Village of Oneida was incorporated. Later the village was chartered as a city.
